The Choice Of Champions
Durepox is a hugely popular and well-known coating amongst yacht racers. It can be found on many race boats including America’s Cup, Sail GP and TP52’s. It is used on the underwater hull, top sides, decks and spars to deliver outstanding adhesion, water resistance, weight savings and full-colour options in one product system.
Independent testing has shown that Durepox reduces drag compared to other finishes.

Why Choose Durepox?
Durepox gives you lighter and more durable results than your average marine paint, proving to be a very attractive drawcard. It’s used above and below the waterline to give uninterputed graphics. On a practical level, painters value its fast dry properties and sandability after three hours with no shrink back.
Durepox can be used as a filler, primer and topcoat all in one saving you litres and hence kilograms worth of paint layers – making your boat lighter and therefore faster in the water.
Product Uses
Durepox can be applied over correctly prepared:
- Steel, Galvanised Iron and Aluminium
- Wood and MDF Board Composites
- Digital print
- GRP (fibreglass) and Carbon Fibre
- Aged and fully cured Automotive Finishes including Acrylic Lacquers and Clear Over-base Systems

Racing Yachts
Racing yachts started using Durepox many years ago for three main reasons: firstly they needed a tough dry sail coating that could be finished and hold that friction-reducing finish for as long as possible.

Dinghies and Foils
Dinghies and their foils have a hard time. Foils are constantly moving into cases and cassettes. The dinghy itself constantly recovered onto its trailer.

Industrial Market
We were asked for coatings that had high durability and wear resistance for industrial applications. Our customer at the time trialled Durepox alongside other industrial brands of coatings.
Durepox History
When Pete de Roo made his first lab sample of Durepox in November 1983 tucked away in a dilapidated laboratory, little did he realise that his new development would one day become world famous. The first batch made at the Resene Automotive Ranui factory in April 1984 was just 100 litres.
Since those humble beginnings, Durepox has fulfilled the demanding needs of painters in the signage, trucking, industrial coatings and floor covering markets for many years, but nobody would ever have dreamt of its success among the international racing boat fraternity.
Durepox has figured strongly on the hull and deck of contestants in the Whitbread and previous America’s Cups. The pinnacle of the product’s fame was undoubtedly in Valencia 2007, when seven of the twelve challengers in the Louis Vuitton Cup and America’s Cup and defender, used Durepox.
