Dinghies and Foils
Dinghies and their foils have a hard time. Foils are constantly moving into cases and cassettes. The dinghy itself constantly recovered onto its trailer. This requires tough coatings that achieve racing finishes, withstand the wear ant tear of general use and look good!
Durepox primer is a go to-choice for dinghy foils. Sometimes they are clear coated with High performance Clear (HPC) and sometimes not. The foils spend little time in UV so the HPC is not always used. The hulls also take a battering during use and recovery and the toughness of Durepox has made it really popular.
Success Factors:
- Put plenty on, the dinghy racers love nothing more than sanding their foils to get the best finish through the water.
- Also great for Carbon masts and non-skid decks
System
- Durepox High Solids Primer (optional only if the hull or foils require more fairing)
- Durepox Primer
- Durepox High-Performance Clear
Hint & Tips
- We use Durepox primer on foils for its extreme toughness and durability. IT gets hard really quick so do any sanding or polishing as soon as possible after application.
- Non skid decks on dinghies take a hammering. Using nonskid beads in Durepox works really well and lasts for ages.
- If you have a carbon mast it needs protecting from UV, especially when left in the dinghy park unprotected. See guidance for clear coating carbon.
- The coloured primers can be used to create an amazing effect on the boat Flattened back and Clear coated with HPC they give a seamless racing finish.
